Belief Bakery #21
This recipe was published in Guide magazine’s November 30, 2024 issue, a weekly publication for children ages 10-14. It is number 21 in a series of 28 installments called “Belief Bakery,” which uses hands-on cooking projects to illustrate the 28 fundamental beliefs of Seventh-day Adventists.
This project is in collaboration with my husband, Greg Reseck, a retired educator specializing in project-based learning.
We emphasize the love of God and Biblical concepts and tie them into fun cooking projects with healthy plant-based recipes.
The Circle of Giving
God’s kingdom is built on love and giving. His generous nature led Him to give the ultimate gift—Jesus. (John 3:16). God, the Greatest Giver, fuels the circle of giving with love and abundant blessings. He appoints you as manager (steward) of your time, talents, money, and health. You show your gratitude to God and participate in the circle of giving when you wisely manage and share your blessings.
With every sunrise, God grants you a new day filled with opportunities to grow in your relationship with Him, learn, and serve others. You participate in the circle of giving when you wisely manage and share your gift of time.
God created you with talents. Whether it’s singing, writing, or being good with numbers, your talents enrich the lives of those around you and honor God. Just like the parable of the talents teaches us, God wants you to develop and multiply your abilities, not hide them away out of fear or laziness (see Matthew 25:14-30). You participate in the circle of giving when you wisely manage and share your talents.
Money can be used for necessities, to bless others, or for selfish purposes. God wants you to experience the joy of giving. “God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). Through tithes (10 percent), offerings, and other giving, you invest in God’s kingdom of love. You participate in the circle of giving when you wisely manage and share your money.
Your body, the temple of the Holy Spirit, is entrusted to you for God’s work. (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20). Making healthful choices gives you the strength and energy to serve God and others. You participate in the circle of giving when you wisely manage your health.
In this cooking project, you’ll make a giant chocolate chip cookie to share so you can experience the joy of participating in the circle of giving. Double the recipe (or do two recipes side-by-side in separate bowls) so you have a cookie to share with your family.

Tips
