Belief Bakery #14

This recipe was published in the September 16, 2023 issue of Guide magazine, a publication for children ages 10-14. It is the number 14 in a series of 28 installments called “Belief Bakery” which uses a hands-on cooking project to illustrate the 28 fundamental beliefs of Seventh-day Adventists.

This project is in collaboration with my husband, Greg Reseck, a retired educator who specializes in project-based learning.

We emphasize the love of God and Biblical concepts and tie them into fun cooking projects with healthy plant-based recipes.

Unity in the Body of Christ

What is unity?
A bond of brothers
A circle of sisters
A commUNITY
Connected by God’s love.

When you accept God’s forgiving love you become part of His family. You join Team Love where the team members unite in a common purpose: love for Jesus and a desire to tell others about Him.

Unity is like a bicycle wheel. God is the center hub. Each person on Team Love is like a spoke—working together. As the spokes get closer to the hub, they get closer to each other. It is like that with God’s family. As people grow closer to God, they grow closer in the bond of fellowship.

Each person has unique strengths, talents, and gifts. Differences can cause division, but we can make the decision to focus on our united purpose while appreciating our differences.

In this cooking project, you’ll make fruit salad. Notice how each fruit maintains its unique taste, shape, color, and texture while uniting with the others to make a delicious combination. Plus, some whipped cream on top makes it extra special!

Health Bite

Fruit is the original fast food, created by God to delight our tastebuds and nourish our bodies. God created fruit in convenient packages that take little or no preparation. It’s easy to peel a banana, bite into an apple, or pop a handful of blueberries into your mouth. Aim to eat several servings of fruit each day.
